As with all worms games, there is the pre-set landscapes and the random generator, to ensure no game is ever the same. The worms look great, as do the landscapes. Graphically, Worms makes the transition into 3D well. It could have, and should have been simplified down and the same result would of still been obtained. I got the feeling Team 17 were trying to hide the fact it was two separate games, so fused together a menu system with far too many options available. One nark I did have with the setup though was the menu system – it felt overly complicated and confusing. To be perfectly honest, there is pretty much a weapon or tool for every situation here. The weapons are split into a few different categories and offer an untold amount of ways to kill – ranged weapons include the ‘bazooka’ and the ‘sniper rifle’, which will fire a projectile into the enemy thrown explosives such as the ‘cluster bomb’, ‘banana bomb’ and the ‘holy hand grenade’ stationary explosives like the ‘mine’ and ‘dynamite’, moving explosives such as the ‘sheep’ and the ‘old lady’ and the accessories like the ‘jet pack’, ‘ninja rope’ and the ‘girder’. The weapons featured within the game have all been seen before (especially if you’ve played Worms3D or Worms4), but even for older Worms players the same staple is here – from the mundane bazooka, grenade and cluster bomb to the outrageous Super Sheep and Inflatable Scouser, they’re all included. The in game shop also offers up more options – by completing challenges and campaign missions you can earn coins to spend, which will then allow you to buy any of the aforementioned goodies or new maps, weapons and game modes.

There are plenty of hats, sound-banks, facial features and gloves for your worms to wear along with full customisation over their names and their tombstones. Completing both campaigns alone will take around ten hours, and the length of the game has to lie in its versus modes.Īs with all Worms games, there are customisation options galore so you can create whatever team of Worms you wish.
As you’re essentially getting two games here for the price of one there is an awful lot to do. One thing is for sure – you get an awful lot of content for your money. Or, you can completely randomise it or leave it off, the choice is up too you. You can have things like low gravity, double damage, one shot one kill, no jumping – mostly just fun things that can spice up a game. You also have access to the ‘Wormpot’, a slot machine that alter effects within the battle. Versus mode is also split into more game modes, such as an all out war, a protect your fort mode and many others. The final mode is versus, which is an all out war between two (or more) teams of worms as they fight to the death. The challenge modes are pretty similar but with no focus on an actual story, with varying challenges and varying difficulty. Usually its just killing the enemy, but quite often you’ll find assault course style levels, killing the enemy team in ‘x’ amount of turns. We have the campaigns for both Worms 3D and Worms 4 included and they feature a set of levels with a set of objectives. UM features three three distinct modes campaign, challenge and versus. Whether it's a local game between you and a friend or a match over Xbox Live, the versus mode is great. The camera sits behind the controlled worm in a 3rd person view as you navigate the landscapes reaching your goal. Therefore, unlike Worms and Worms 2 it is completely 3D. To annihilate an opposing team of worms by any means necessary, whether it be a weapon, a bomb, falling off a ledge or something crazy like an exploding sheep.Īs I mentioned earlier this is a combination of Worms 3D and Worms 4. Throughout the multiple modes UM offers us, the objective is usually the same. UM is actually two games in one featuring both the campaigns and challenges for both Worms 3D and Worms 4.
