I'd rather see if I can borrow one from someone first. But, there's no way to demo them without buying the unit. I keep thinking about it because there are three specific plugins UAD offers that I'd like to try. You mentioned the satellite, so #3 probably isn't your use case. Whether or not it makes sense for you boils down to 3 things.ġ) Since a lot of the UAD plugins are also available in native versions (mostly from plugin alliance), the only benefit for them is if your computer is having trouble with the processing you want to do either in terms of stability or latency.Ģ) If there are plugins for the UAD platform that you want that aren't available natively, that's the only way to get them.ģ) If you're tracking and plan on using a UAD interface, the UAD Console can do very low latency monitoring with UAD plugins for the artist's monitor signal, to print those effects on the way in (similar to running through hardware before hitting the recorder), or both.
#Using uad plugins without hardware code#
Some of them are running the exact same code on your processor as opposed to the UAD DSP chips. Now, there are native plugins emulating the same hardware that also sound good to me.not always identical, but very good in their own right.
I don't recall any actual problems, and the processing I used sounded good. It's been a long while since I've used it (never bought it myself), and my experience was with the PCIe cards on a pre-trashcan MacPro, which also ran PT HD3, so almost all of the processing I was doing was via DSP cards (I believe that motherboard was literally full).
